Wellness/Preventive Medicine Programs

Through a unique plan with an off-site laboratory, we are pleased to offer several wellness packages at a significant discount. Preventive medicine and early detection of illness is the best way to ensure that your best friend lives a long and healthy life. This philosophy begins at your pet’s first visit, and continues through their senior years.

Vaccinations

We implement modern vaccination protocols, which includes targeted vaccination based upon age, lifestyle, and annual risk assessment. Vaccinations have saved many lives, and are a very important part of preventive medicine. For example, life threatening parvovirus enteritis is one of the most common conditions seen at emergency hospitals. This condition can easily be prevented with the appropriate vaccination protocol. We understand that every pet is unique, and we strive to implement a vaccination program that will fit your pet’s individual needs

Puppy/Kitten Recommendations

The initial puppy/kitten series of vaccinations are a vital part of keeping your pet healthy throughout this vulnerable stage of their life. We generally recommend beginning your puppy vaccination program between 6 and 8 weeks of age, with boosters every 3 to 4 weeks until he or she is 14-16 weeks of age. Kitten vaccinations are recommended to begin at 8 weeks of age. Controlling internal and external parasites through fecal tests, dewormings, implementing heartworm and flea preventatives, etc. are also vital to your new pet’s health. It is also best to avoid contact with potentially non-vaccinated pets such as at parks, etc. until 3 weeks after your puppy or kitten’s last vaccine.

Young to Middle Age Wellness Program

In general, pets age 7 years on average for each 1 human year. Therefore, illness can set in quickly, and the earlier diagnosis occurs, the better the chance a problem can be treated. Through our discount wellness plan, we can now offer annual diagnostic screening of your pet’s organ functions. However, the most important part of these exams is the history and actual physical exam that takes place when we evaluate your pet.

Senior Wellness Program

As your pet enters their golden years, medical problems due to aging may not be apparent at first. Such conditions can vary from painful arthritis, thyroid conditions, early stage tumors, etc. We encourage you to take advantage of our discount program to aid in early detection and treatment of your pet. This program may include further diagnostics such as x-rays and ultrasound imaging if warranted.

Spaying/Neutering

Unless you plan to breed your pet, we generally recommend having them spayed/neutered in a timely manner. This can help avoid problems such as mammary cancer, uterine infections, unwanted pregnancy, prostate enlargement, aggression, roaming, etc. If you plan to breed your pet, please visit our reproductive page to learn more about how we can help make this a safe and positive process. We promote responsible breeding practices, and want to make sure that the mother dog/cat as well as her puppies/kittens receives the best of care
