Reproductive Services

We promote responsible breeding practices, and want to make sure that the mother dog/cat, as well as her puppies/kittens, receives the best of care. If you have decided to breed your pet, we recommend a thorough physical exam and consultation to discuss expectations, as well as any potential problems, both before and after your pet has given birth. Conditions such as postpartum calcium deficiency and infected mammary glands (mastitis) are serious conditions that need prompt treatment. We also sometimes recommend prepartum and postpartum x-rays. Some of our theriogenology (reproductive) services that we provide are as follows:

• Vaginal smears and progesterone testing to help determine the appropriate time to breed
• Artificial and surgical inseminations
• Ultrasound pregnancy screening test
• Planned breed specific as well as emergency caesarean sections
